We checked out of hotel and drove toward Verona. Along the way we drove down the eastern shore of Lake Garda. It seems to get a lot of wind as windsurfers and kiteboarders populated the lake. We had to hurry the last hour to make it to the Verona train station in time to drop our rental car off in time.
We walked the 30 minutes into the Old Town, complete with a roman coliseum and castle.
Our B&B was not ready so we stopped for lunch
The made up balcony from Romeo and Juliet above.

Our lodging for the night was tucked into an alley. With lots of old world charm

After freshening up we walked over the river and up the castle walls for a look back at Verona during sunset.

We found dinner along the river.
The next morning during breakfast at the B&B I disappointed the host and myself with an attempt to destroy his new cappuccino machine. I could not figure out how to add water, and mistakenly added it where you place ground coffee. I then realized my mistake and was holding the machine upside down over the sink, while Amy was struggling with the other K-Cup machine, and our host walked in. He was not pleased and expressed this frustration. The conversation for the rest of the morning was a mix between follow-up scolding and contempt. We could not checkout fast enough.
We took the train to Milan and caught another up to Lake Como and the town of Varenna.

Everyone was dressed up with full makeup to get their Lake Como Instagram shots. We checked into our room and found a spot for food

After we ate, I got my swimsuit and went to the lake for a dip.

The next morning we headed back to Milan, but on our way we stopped at the towns of Bellagio and Managgio along the lake.

I booked a room in an apartment building near the train station in Milan. It was a rough area. I felt like we did not want to be caught out after dark when “The Purge” would commence. The amount of security on our door was impressive (This was even after the security door to get into the courtyard of the apartment complex)

We stopped for a beer along a canal and had a lackluster sushi dinner.
Our final day in Milan was spent sightseeing. We took the local metro to see the Duomo di Milano. A impressive structure that was built across many hundreds of years and finally finished in the early 19th century.

We climbed up to the roof to more closely examine all the intricate marble carvings done by various artists over the years

We ended in the cathedral itself

I thought the hole in the ceiling in the below picture was cool. At a certain time it shines a light on the floor for the corresponding zodiac sign we are currently in. Kinda like Raiders of the Lost Ark.

We walked around the city, stopping for lunch at a traditional Milanese restaurant where we had pasta and risotto.

A stop at a cake shop for coffee and pistachio cookies.
A walk through a local park and our trip was complete. Travel went off without a hitch the next day

People still fall prey to the shell game?

A successful trip. Not too long. I actually think I would enjoy returning to Italy in the future to explore Florence or even possibly Rome.
Until Next Time
