SoCal National Park Loop (Part 2 of 7)

I slept on the floor at my brother's place last night. I woke up around 7am and walked out on the porch. I saw all these huge snails. I gathered as many as I could and put them all together. I figured they rarely spend time together so let’s have a little reunion of sorts. Maybe they would compare shell sizes, or antenna length or just where they been in the last 10 days.

Bryan and his roommate got up around 8am and we headed out to Santa Monica Pier. We did not actually go on the pier as my brother said it was pretty touristy. He told me they had a Bubba Gump Shrimp Restaurant and that was enough information to know I would hate it.

We headed downtown and onto this cool pedestrian street with tons of street performers and cart shops.

We stopped for lunch at this English Pub and had these amazing Bloody Marys. Next stop was Venice Beach. I was expecting crazies and freaks galore but it was pretty tame. I stopped at the gym and was looking for huge guys with bronzed bodies, but they were pretty human-like. The skate park was cool, especially when this flamboyant kid was going through the pool on rollerblades and every time he popped out it looked like he was gonna go ass over head into the crowd. I bought some bracelets and came across this 2-headed turtle. This place was using him to attract people to their oddities museum.

It was kinda funny as there were all these prescription marijuana shops, which were basically a "doctor" in a white coat under an umbrella. After that we headed to some shops where I found a vintage clothing store having a fire sale. I found these incredible pants by Pulitzer designer for $10

I also got some polyester shirts that were kinda tight but will make good gifts. I immediately changed out of my current close in a bar and represented my new SoCal style. We were off to Culver City for some food and then back to the apartment where Lisa cooked a great Thai dinner. I know this blog kinda sucks, but it is a transition, an Empire Strikes Back/ Temple of Doom-type update. Tomorrow it is of on my solo adventure where the stories improve along with the scenery.

I have been writing this blog for almost 20 years. After owning and operating a travel company, reconnecting with the outdoors, I now spend a majority of my time exploring both off the beaten path and well worn tourist adventures.

“I saw in their eyes something I was to see over and over in every part of the nation- a burning desire to go, to move, to get under way, anyplace, away from any Here. They spoke quietly of how they wanted to go someday, to move about, free and unanchored, not toward something but away from something. I saw this look and heard this yearning everywhere in every states I visited. Nearly every American hungers to move.”
