Mountain Biking In Michigan

This Last Spring and Summer I tried to hit all the Mountain Bike Trails in South East Michigan. Below is A map I pulled from the Michigan Mountain Bike Association (MMBA.org).

I recommend hitting them all but if you want my opinion on which are the best, I would say as follows:

1. Lakeshore Park – Best overall trail as it is very well maintained, used for many of the MMBA sponsored racing events

2 Highland State Rec Area: This is the most challenging course in SE Michigan and should only be tackled after hitting some of the others first

3. Hickory Glen: a Great course that is tight and technical and rarely crowded

4. Pontiac Lake: A great 9 mile trail that requires stamina more than technique.

Michigan is a great place for outdoor state and Mountain Biking is another example of this.

I have been writing this blog for almost 20 years. After owning and operating a travel company, reconnecting with the outdoors, I now spend a majority of my time exploring both off the beaten path and well worn tourist adventures.

“I saw in their eyes something I was to see over and over in every part of the nation- a burning desire to go, to move, to get under way, anyplace, away from any Here. They spoke quietly of how they wanted to go someday, to move about, free and unanchored, not toward something but away from something. I saw this look and heard this yearning everywhere in every states I visited. Nearly every American hungers to move.”
